Somerset food producer The Flavourworks is working on launches of vegan butters, sauces, gravies and rubs for UK food manufacturers.
Initially the lines will be made at the company’s head office in Wincanton, but plans are being drawn up for a new production facility that will showcase green initiatives such as using gas from a local biomass plant, rainwater harvesting and being fully carbon neutral.
“Over the last few months we have had increasing numbers of requests from our customers for vegan ingredients and we now think it is the right time to be planning to build The Veganworks to deal with that demand,” said managing director Chris Ormrod.
The Flavourworks, formerly known as Markus Products, annually supplies 600 new product lines to around 60 food manufacturers. Its ingredients feature in many meals found at M&S, Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda, Aldi, Lidl and the Co-Op.
