Nationally there are over 1 million adults who have a learning disability. Less than 20 percent of these individuals are in work, many of these jobs are part time and are low paid.
North Somerset Council currently provide a service to 433 people with a learning disability. Approximately 10 percent of these are in paid employment. Many of these individuals want to find work and would not only benefit financially but also in self-confidence and from learning new skills.
Benefits to the employer:
There are many benefits that an employer can gain from employing individuals with learning disabilities, including; improved image and external reputation with a workforce that reflects the diversity of the local community; gaining a greater understanding of the needs of customers with disabilities; contributing to corporate social responsibility, being seen as an “employer of choice” and creating positive change to workplace culture and practice.
